Teaching Toward Success Workshop

A one day workshop, at your school, for your secondary school teachers.

This professional development opportunity is all about helping the students at your school learn the skills and create the mind set to achieve their best results.

By working with the whole staff, you can move towards a whole school approach to helping students work towards achieving their personal best. Much more effective than just sending one or two teachers to learn these skills!

The focus is twofold:

- Helping students with study skills (time management, study notes, study techniques).

- Helping students create a success mind set with practical motivation strategies and procrastination busters.

Content Covered:

- Helping students develop resilience and confidence 

- Helping students set and achieve goals

- Helping students access inner motivation and overcome procrastination 

- Helping students develop time management skills

- The importance of study notes/summaries

- Helping students improve the way they study for tests and examinations, in particular with respect to students learning in different ways.

Schools have found this workshop useful because the day offers two presenters, both with a teaching background, presenting practical ideas that teachers can immediately take away and implement.Opportunities are also facilitated to discuss how your school, and in particular, your faculties will implement these ideas.

Who and Why?

Prue Salter of ELES and Rocky Biasi of Human Connections have been working together for a number of years running senior study days where the year group is split in half and spends half a day with each presenter. Their areas of expertise complement each other. Prue covers practical study skills strategies and techniques while Rocky helps students move towards the right mindset to implement the strategies - a dual approach that is reinforced by the research in this area.

This workshop was developed when teachers attending the student seminars asked if there were workshops they could attend to learn about the material covered with the students. Originally this was offered as an open workshop for teachers from different schools to attend, however we have found that it is much more effective when the whole school is on the same page! Therefore schools can now book this one day workshop to be run at their school for the benefit of their secondary staff.

Please be advised that availability is limited, you may need to arrange this day well in advance, however we are always happy to check availability of specific days for you.

Cost?

Cost is $3300 including GST and all handouts for the day. Your school will need to provide a screen and a data projector. Please select a venue at the school that allows teachers to move into groups for discussion (ie not a lecture theatre). For schools outside of Sydney, travel and accommodation costs may also be applicable for the two presenters.

(These times can be adjusted, however a total of 5 hours of workshop time split into 2 hrs, 2hrs, 1 hr is necessary.)
