The AIM :
The aim of the "Big Fish into Little Fish" session is to ease the transition for Yr7 into High School, build cohesion among the year group and develop resilience.
Students learn to :
- Simple, easy and fast techn
iques to cope with stress, worry and anxiety. This means those students who are anxious and "refusing" to attend school will have ways of coping.
- Participate in games that reveal (in a confidential & non threatening way) the Year group's hopes and fears. This means Year 7 can agree/contract (with each other -including parents if you wish) that they will work together to minimise each other's fears and maximise their collective hopes and dreams.
- Develop empowering self - identity beliefs. This lays the foundation to resilience and self-worth.
- Role - play effective communication strategies to enhance relationships with their peers, teachers and parents. This will provide for greater connection and openness at home and school. The result is less conflict and more focus and energy toward learning.
- Discover ways to engage new friends and build rapport with individuals and groups. This means less bullying/exclusion, reduced reliance on only one or two friends and a greater cohesion among the year group.
Students will benefit by :
- Managing and dealing with feelings and emotions
- Healthy interpersonal relationships
- Challenging the negative "labels" that determine their sense of self
